Choosing a file size limit in DigiSafe's Make it smaller

Every Indian form sets its own limit for a photo, a signature and your documents. Here they are in one table, from each official notice, with the free tool that fixes a file that is too big or too small.

Checked against the official sources on 1 October 2026. DigiSafe is a private app, not connected with these offices.

A real moment

“You are filling in three applications this month, and each one rejects a different file. The limits are buried in three different PDFs.”

Limits differ by form. A PAN signature on Protean must be 10 KB or less, an SSC signature 10 to 20 KB, a NEET photo 10 to 200 KB, an OCI photo 200 KB or less, and a US visa photo 240 KB or less. Check the table for your form, then shrink or enlarge the file to fit.

Where these limits come from

Every row comes from the official notice or portal for that form, checked on 1 October 2026 (the JEE Main, TNPSC, GATE and India Post GDS rows on 2 November 2026), and most are covered in more depth, with the official links, in our guides to passport photo size, PAN photo and signature size, NEET and SSC photo size, JEE Main 2027 photo size and TNPSC photo size. The GATE and India Post GDS rows link to the official pages in the sources below. Exam notices change every year, so check this year's notice before you upload.

The tightest limits to watch

Protean's online PAN form takes a signature of 10 KB or less and a photo of 20 KB or less, the smallest caps in the table. UTIITSL is far looser for the same PAN, at under 30 KB and 60 KB. If a PAN upload keeps failing, check which agency's form you are on.

03

Minimums catch people out

NEET, SSC and the Indian e-Visa set a 10 KB floor, and NEET's certificates start at 50 KB. A tightly cropped signature or a photo saved from a chat can fall under it. Raise it just over the minimum with the free increase image size tool.

Fix a file in a minute

Too big? Use reduce image size for a photo, signature resize for a signature, or reduce PDF size for a document. Need a photo cut to 3.5 x 4.5 cm or a square visa size? The passport photo maker does both. All of them work in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Why a file under the limit still fails

Portals do not agree on what a KB is: some count 1,000 bytes, others 1,024. A file of 20,300 bytes is under 20 KB by one count and over it by the other. Our tools stay under a maximum counting 1,000 bytes per KB, and over a minimum counting 1,024, so the file passes either way.

Questions people ask

What is the photo size for online forms in India?+

It depends on the form: 20 KB or less for a Protean PAN photo, under 30 KB on UTIITSL, 10 to 200 KB for NEET UG 2026 and JEE Main 2027, 20 to 50 KB for TNPSC, 200 KB or less for OCI, and 10 KB to 1 MB for the Indian e-Visa. SSC captures your photo live instead.

What is the signature size for online forms?+

10 KB or less for a Protean PAN form, under 60 KB on UTIITSL, 10 to 100 KB for NEET UG 2026 and 10 to 20 KB for SSC 2026.

Why does the form say my file is too small?+

Some forms set a minimum, usually 10 KB. Use the free increase image size tool to raise the file just over it.

My file is under the limit. Why was it rejected?+

Some portals count a KB as 1,024 bytes and others as 1,000, so a file can be under the limit by one count and over it by the other. Aim a little under the limit.

Do these limits change?+

Yes, especially exam notices, which are published each year. This table shows the notices as we checked them on 1 October 2026 (JEE Main, TNPSC, GATE and India Post GDS on 2 November 2026), so check the current notice before you upload.
