Pick the size for your document

Indian passport and PAN paper forms ask for a 3.5 x 4.5 cm colour photo on white. Protean's online PAN form wants 3.5 x 2.5 cm at 200 DPI, 20 KB or less. OCI and the US visa both take a square photo, OCI up to 200 KB on a light background that is not white, the US visa 600 to 1200 pixels and 240 KB or less. The tool sets the shape, pixels and file limit for you.

Applying for an Indian passport at a PSK? Skip the photo

Passport Seva says no photograph is needed at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra: staff take it at the counter. You need a printed 3.5 x 4.5 cm photo only for a paper form, and a 630 x 810 pixel photo if you apply at an Indian mission abroad.

03

Take a photo that passes

Stand a metre in front of a plain wall in the colour your form asks for, with light on your face and none behind you. Hold the phone at eye level and look straight at it. The tool crops and sizes the photo, but it does not change the background, so get the wall right first. The US visa no longer allows glasses.

05

Your photo stays on your device

Many online photo makers send your picture to their servers. This one runs inside your browser, so your face never travels anywhere. Close the tab and the tool keeps no copy.

06

Keep it ready for the next form

Save the finished photo in DigiSafe with your passport, PAN and other papers, encrypted on your phone. The next form that wants a photo, a scan and an ID number finds them all in one place. DigiSafe is free today, with no ads.

Questions about passport size photos

How do I make a passport size photo online?+

Choose your document, add a photo taken against a plain wall, drag and zoom until your face sits in the oval, then tap Make my photo. You get a JPG at the exact size for upload and, for printed sizes, a sheet of photos to print. It all happens in your browser.

What is the passport size photo size in India?+

Indian passport paper forms ask for 3.5 x 4.5 cm (35 x 45 mm), in colour, on a plain white background. At a Passport Seva Kendra no photo is needed, because staff take it there.

How many passport photos fit on an A4 sheet?+

With this tool, 25 photos of 3.5 x 4.5 cm fit on A4, in 5 rows of 5 with cut lines. A 4 x 6 inch sheet holds 6.

Can it make the background white?+

No. The tool crops and sizes your photo but does not change the background. Take the photo against a plain wall in the colour your form asks for: white for an Indian passport, light but not white for OCI.

What size is the PAN card photo?+

Protean's online PAN form wants a colour JPEG of 3.5 x 2.5 cm at 200 DPI, 20 KB or less, and paper Form 93 takes two 3.5 x 4.5 cm photos. Choose the matching option in the tool.

What size is a US visa photo?+

A square colour JPEG between 600 x 600 and 1200 x 1200 pixels, 240 KB or less, on a white or off-white background. A printed one is 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm). The tool makes a 600 x 600 file and a 2 x 2 inch print sheet.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?+

No. The cropping and sizing happen in your browser on your own device. The photo is never sent to DigiSafe or anyone else.
