Why can't I select text in the smaller PDF?+
To reach a small size, each page is saved as a compressed image, like a scan. Online forms read it the same way, but you cannot select or search its text.
What if my PDF has a password?+
Remove the password first, for example by opening it and saving or printing a copy without one, then shrink that copy.
