You can change the mobile number on your Aadhaar in UIDAI's Aadhaar app if you can still get OTPs on the old number, or at any Aadhaar centre without it. It costs Rs 75 (as of 28 October 2026) and needs no documents.

Fees as listed on 28 October 2026. They come from the official pages in the sources below and can change at any time. DigiSafe cannot guarantee them, so check the official page before you pay.

A real moment

“Your old SIM is long gone, and every Aadhaar OTP goes to it. You cannot download your e-Aadhaar, lock your biometrics or update your address online until the number changes.”

In UIDAI's Aadhaar app, verify the new number with an OTP (and the old one too, if the app is registered on another number), complete face authentication and pay Rs 75. Lost the old number, or never registered one? Visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre: no document or old number is needed. The myAadhaar website cannot change it.

Not on the myAadhaar website

myAadhaar lists Update Mobile Number as a service for the Aadhaar app and Aadhaar Seva Kendras, not one you can do on the website. UIDAI's Aadhaar app FAQ says you can update only your mobile number and address directly in the app, without visiting a centre.

Change it in the Aadhaar app

If the app is registered on the same number as your Aadhaar, verify the new number with an OTP, complete face authentication and pay the fee. If the app is on a different number, verify both the old registered number and the new one. The app needs Android 9 or iOS 16 or later, and does not work outside India. A government press release of February 2026 said the app had already helped 1 million residents update their mobile number.

Lost the old number? Go to a centre

UIDAI says you can update your mobile number at any Aadhaar enrolment centre with no document and no old mobile number. The app cannot register a number for the first time; UIDAI sends you to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre for that. Aadhaar Seva Kendras open all 7 days from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, except national and regional holidays. Book a slot on UIDAI's appointment site, which does not need a registered mobile and allows 2 bookings a month, or find a centre on UIDAI's Bhuvan locator, which can filter for centres doing mobile updates.

The fee is Rs 75

A UIDAI office memorandum of 19 September 2025 set Rs 75 for a demographic update, which includes the mobile number, online or at a centre, from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2028, rising to Rs 90 after that. UIDAI's charges list of September 2026 shows the same Rs 75, and UIDAI's Aadhaar Seva Kendra page says its charges include applicable taxes. Some older UIDAI pages still show Rs 50; the memorandum and the newest list are current.

Check which number is linked

Use Check Email / Mobile Link on myAadhaar: enter your Aadhaar number, the mobile number you think is linked, and the captcha. It tells you whether that number is linked to your Aadhaar; the first time you check a number, it may send a verification code to it. It does not display the linked number, so try the numbers you have used.

After the update

UIDAI's app FAQ says mobile and address updates take up to 30 days. No new Aadhaar letter is sent for a mobile change; UIDAI sends a notification to the new number instead. Track a centre request on myAadhaar's status page with the number on your acknowledgement slip, and if it is pending for more than 30 days, raise a grievance on myAadhaar or call 1947. Up to 9 Aadhaar numbers can share one mobile number.

At your door, through the postman

UIDAI's FAQ says you can also update your mobile number through the postman, a doorstep service India Post Payments Bank launched in 2021. UIDAI's pages do not give current booking steps or a fee for it, so ask at your post office.
