You can change the address on your Aadhaar online, on myAadhaar or in UIDAI's Aadhaar app, for Rs 75 (as of 28 October 2026), with a proof of address in your own name. No document in your name? A family member's Aadhaar can lend you theirs.

Fees as listed on 28 October 2026. They come from the official pages in the sources below and can change at any time. DigiSafe cannot guarantee them, so check the official page before you pay.

A real moment

“You moved to a new flat last month. The bank wants your Aadhaar to show the new address before it updates your KYC, and the rent agreement is the only paper with your name on it.”

Log in to myAadhaar with your Aadhaar number and an OTP, choose Address update, type the new address and upload a colour scan of a proof of address in your name, such as a passport, voter ID, bank passbook, rent agreement or a utility bill under 3 months old. Pay Rs 75 and keep the SRN. UIDAI says updates normally finish within 30 days.

Three ways to update your address

On myAadhaar, log in with your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile. In UIDAI's Aadhaar app, log in with your 6-digit PIN, go to Services, then Address Update, upload the document, check the preview and finish with face authentication. Without a registered mobile, go to an Aadhaar enrolment centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra, where an operator takes the request and your document; UIDAI says charges are the same at every centre.

The fee is Rs 75, and what is free

UIDAI's September 2026 charges list puts a demographic update, which includes address, at Rs 75, and its fee memorandum of 19 September 2025 applies that rate online and at centres. myAadhaar charges the same Rs 75 however many details you change. The free offer you may have read about is for document update: refreshing the identity and address proofs on file, free on myAadhaar until 14 June 2027 under a UIDAI memorandum of 13 May 2026. It does not cover changing your address. Some older UIDAI pages still say Rs 50; the newest charges list says Rs 75.

Rules for the proof you upload

The proof must be in your name: myAadhaar says documents in the name of a spouse, guardian or parent will not be accepted. It must be currently valid, a clear colour scan of the original, and the address you type must match the one on it. myAadhaar takes PNG, JPEG or PDF files under 2 MB, and rejects a password-protected PDF, so save an unlocked copy of a bank statement first.

Why your driving licence will not work

UIDAI's current list of supporting documents, from May 2026, accepts a driving licence as proof of identity but not as proof of address for an update. The same goes for a birth certificate, a marksheet, a divorce decree, a gazette notification and a CGHS, ECHS, ESIC or medi-claim card. Older lists online still show the licence, so check the date of any list you rely on.

No proof in your name? Use a family member's Aadhaar

Choose the family member based address update. On myAadhaar, enter the Aadhaar number of your head of family, who must be 18 or older, pick the relationship and upload a proof of relationship, such as a marriage certificate, ration card, passport or birth certificate, or a self-declaration from that family member. In the Aadhaar app, enter their Aadhaar number, pick the relationship, complete face authentication and pay. The head of family accepts or declines the request from their own myAadhaar or Aadhaar app within 30 days. If they do not, the request closes and UIDAI does not refund the fee. UIDAI aims to finish these within 60 days, including those 30.

After you submit

You get an SRN: an S followed by 13 digits. Check progress on myAadhaar's enrolment or update status page with it. UIDAI says updates normally finish within 30 days; if yours is pending longer, raise a grievance on myAadhaar or call 1947. UIDAI's FAQ says you can cancel from Requests on myAadhaar until processing starts, with a refund within 21 days, but myAadhaar's payment FAQ says a submitted request cannot be cancelled, so do not count on a refund. A rejected request is not refunded. Once updated, download a fresh e-Aadhaar.

Can I use my driving licence to update my Aadhaar address?+

No. UIDAI's current list, from May 2026, accepts a driving licence as proof of identity but not as proof of address for an update.

Is the Aadhaar address update free?+

No. It is Rs 75, online or at a centre, in UIDAI's September 2026 charges list (checked 28 October 2026). What is free until 14 June 2027 is document update on myAadhaar, which refreshes the proofs on file without changing your address.

Can I use a rent agreement as address proof for Aadhaar?+

Yes. UIDAI accepts a rent, lease or leave and licence agreement, registered or unregistered, as long as it is in your name.

How can I update my Aadhaar address without documents?+

Use the family member based address update. Your head of family, aged 18 or older and living at the same address, approves sharing their Aadhaar address, and you upload a proof of your relationship.

How long does an Aadhaar address update take?+

UIDAI says normally within 30 days. A family member based update can take up to 60 days, because the head of family has 30 days to approve it.

How many times can I change my Aadhaar address?+

UIDAI lists no lifetime limit for address. Its limits are for name (twice), and gender and date of birth (once each).

Can I update my address without a registered mobile number?+

Not online. Visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra with your proof of address; the operator takes the request there.

Is DigiSafe connected with UIDAI?+

No. DigiSafe is a private app. Update your Aadhaar only on myAadhaar, UIDAI's Aadhaar app or at an Aadhaar centre.
