Every state applies the same federal minimum: proof of your full legal name and date of birth, your Social Security number, two proofs of your home address, and lawful status. What follows is what this state adds.

New York asks for two proofs of New York residency for a REAL ID or Enhanced licence, along with proof of your Social Security number, proof of citizenship or lawful status, and proof of name. Proofs with a P.O. Box, or issued more than a year before your visit, are not accepted. There is no extra fee for REAL ID.

For a REAL ID or Enhanced document, the New York DMV wants two proofs of New York residency. Documents showing a P.O. Box are not accepted, and neither is anything issued more than one year before your office visit.

Proof of name, by points
The DMV's form ID-44 lists the accepted documents and scores proofs of name in points. You need 6 points of proof of name, plus proof of your Social Security number and of citizenship or lawful status.

There is no extra fee for a REAL ID. An Enhanced licence costs $30 more and is only for US citizens.
